Gerhard Levy Distinguished Lectureship in Pharmaceutical Sciences for Prof. Scherrmann, chairman of Vect-Horus' Scientific Advisory Board

University at Buffalo, The State University of New York distinguished Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Sciences Gerhard Levy was a pioneer and leading contributor in the areas of pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacokinetics.

The Gerhard Levy Lecture Series is held annually in recognition of the significant contributions Levy made in his fields of study and to honor a beloved friend and esteemed colleague who deftly balanced his love of teaching with robust research.

2017 guest speaker is Jean-Michel Scherrmann, PharmD, PhD, Professor in the Department of Pharmacokinetics, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Paris Descartes.

Jean-Michel Scherrmann received his PharmD and PhD in analytical radiochemistry from the University Paris Descartes. He led the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit at the French Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and the National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS) from 2002 to 2013. He has been Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at University Paris Descartes since 2012 and Professor at the National Institute of Nuclear Sciences and Techniques. Prof Scherrmann has made major contributions in the development of drug radioimmunoassays, drug detoxification by immunotherapy, and drug redistribution concepts in pharmacokinetics. He pioneered the first clinical application of colchicine immunotherapy for acute overdoses and was an early leader in therapeutic antibody PK/PD relationships. His research now focuses on drug transporters in neuropharmacokinetics and drug delivery strategies to the brain. His work has resulted in 2 patents, 350 scientific articles, 35 book chapters, and over 250 invited presentations. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals in the analytical and pharmaceutical sciences and is presently Associate Editor of the AAPS Journal. He has mentored over 30 postgraduate and 47 doctoral students. Prof Scherrmann was recipient of the 1992 American Academy of Clinical Toxicology Award, the 1999 French National Academy of Medicine Achievement Award, and the James Gillette Award from ASPET in 2005. He is a Fellow of AAPS and a member of the French National Academy of Pharmacy. He was visiting Professor of Tohoku University (Japan) Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2008 and awarded Honoured Member of the French Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics Group in 2014.

Vect-Horus rejoint la communauté Bpifrance Excellence

Marseille, le 26 janvier 2016. Bpifrance accueille au sein de la communauté Bpifrance Excellence la société VECT-HORUS, spécialisée dans l'adressage de molécules thérapeutiques ou d'imagerie principalement vers le système nerveux central (SNC, cerveau et moelle épinière) mais également dans différents organes et tumeurs. VECT-HORUS fait désormais partie de la communauté de près de 3000 sociétés, tous secteurs d'innovation confondus dont les perspectives de croissance sont considérées comme les plus prometteuses par Bpifrance.
Pour VECT-HORUS, spin-off du laboratoire NICN, UMR7259, CNRS et Aix Marseille Université (AMU), le partenariat avec la banque publique d'investissement a été initié dès 2006, date à laquelle l'institution financière débloque les premiers fonds par le biais de son agence marseillaise, suivi de deux autres aides en 2012 sous forme de subventions pour accompagner l'entreprise dans le développement de sa plateforme VECTrans®. Cette plateforme permet le développement de molécules « vecteurs » qui facilitent le transport d'agents d'imagerie ou thérapeutiques dans le cerveau. Ce dernier est en effet équipé d'un système vasculaire très particulier, appelé barrière hémato-encéphalique (BHE), qui restreint très efficacement le passage d'agents pharmacologiques du sang vers le tissu nerveux. La BHE représente encore aujourd'hui un verrou technologique majeur pour l'industrie pharmaceutique et pour le développement de stratégies thérapeutiques permettant d'adresser les maladies neurodégénératives (Alzheimer, Parkinson, Sclérose en plaques etc.) ou les tumeurs cérébrales. Au printemps 2015, un nouveau financement de 0,75 M€ a été accordé par Bpifrance pour le développement préclinique réglementaire du VH-N439, une molécule « first in class » dans la neuroprotection suite à un arrêt cardio-respiratoire.
Depuis deux ans, VECT-HORUS a signé successivement trois collaborations de recherche avec des sociétés comme Advanced Accelerator Applications (AAA), leader européen dans le domaine de l'imagerie moléculaire et nucléaire, SANOFI pour l'adressage cérébral d'anticorps thérapeutiques et SERVIER pour développer de nouvelles molécules dans le domaine des maladies du système nerveux. Entre 2008 et 2015, la société a participé à 6 programmes de recherche financés par l'Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) et à un programme de recherche financé par le Fonds Unique Interministériel (FUI). La société a également été nominée en 2015 comme étant l'une des 15 « success stories » identifiées par le CNRS au sein de 1000 entreprises issues de ses laboratoires.
