Jean-Pierre BENOIT

Prof. Jean-Pierre Benoit teaches Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Angers and is the head of INSERM U 1066 / CNRS 6021 "Biomimetic Micro and Nanomedicines" unit. He is also a hospital practitioner at Angers University Hospital and a corresponding member of the National Academy of Pharmacy. Moreover, he is the President of section 80 of the CNU “Physico-chemical sciences and engineering applied to health” and Chairman of Departmental Committee 49 of the League against Cancer.

His research activities concern the development of strategies for targeting pharmacological molecules to various pathological tissues (e.g. cancers) of a patient. He is a co-author of over 320 international publications and co-inventor of 40 patents.

He has invested major efforts in the promotion of academic research by creating in 1992, the Microencapsulation Center, a platform offering its services to Industry in the field of microencapsulation, then in 1999, Mainelab SA and finally, in 2010 , Carlina Technologies, in the field of nanomedicines.

He received two major awards: in 2010 the “Research Achievement Award” awarded by the FIP (Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique) in New Orleans and, in 2011, the Grand Prix de l’Académie Nationale de Pharmacy (Notoriety Award) in Paris.

In 2015, he has been decorated with the award of “Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur” .
